Planned Themes:

  • representation and reality:

    the media as a usual first point of contact, analysis of media representation of parkour, and the contrast with experiences made in participant observation, i.e. in training with traceurs

  • fractures and the quest for unity:

    discussions on the correct definition of parkour, fractions, attempts at control/structure, the quest for unity/commonality - all issues that mainly seem to take place in cyberspace; and the contrast with the community of traceurs in practice

  • pk as cultural practice:

    1. re-interpretation of city structure/public spaces;

    2. conflict between majority culture and this subculture, in particular the strange gap opening between traceurs individually choosing their paths - as the wider cultural orientation argues were always supported - and the real obligation to behave normally that the majority appears to propound;

    3. the meaning of parkour to the traceur: relation to risk-seeking, physical exercise/sedentary lifestyle, feelings of agency/self-efficacy...
